Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku (Bamboo Latticeware)

“Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku” is one of Shizuoka’s representative bamboo crafts. Using bamboo strips made from thinly split bamboo that have been processed into a round shape, the craftsmen complete their work by putting the strips together one by one using traditional techniques. There is a wide variety of products for daily use and interior decoration, such as bags and vases.

“Suruga Shikki” is a traditional craft from Shizuoka, known for its beautiful coating and delicate decorations.

Shizuoka has had a climate suitable for lacquerware, and thus, lacquerware has been cherished since ancient times. It developed during the Edo period and today is highly valued both in Japan and abroad.
